At The LIME Foundation, we have been availing ourselves of an incredible opportunity to help even more youth get into career-track jobs in the construction industry through the NextGen Trades Academy. At the beginning of 2020, we didn't expect we would have the chance to pivot to an online model where students from every corner of the county could discover their passion for construction, HVAC, interior design, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, and more. Yet, here we are! Virtual classes allow us to serve students more often and more efficiently. We recently hired a part-time instructor who leads these high-tech classes, which still include OSHA certification, financial literacy education, stress management lessons, and vital interview coaching.
In fact, thirteen students just graduated from our very first fully-online cohort of the NextGen Trades Academy. Students from Cloverdale to Petaluma attended classes on weeknights and Saturday mornings, three days per week in order to complete the class. These students spoke with construction industry CEOs from across the county and participated in virtual tours of job sites and construction offices - something we have never been able to provide in the past. These new graduates are pending referral to a variety of local construction-related positions currently being filled in Sonoma and Marin Counties. Today, we are asking for your support so we can continue to offer these life-changing classes to students.
