Owen entered the world at just 25 weeks gestation on May 3rd 2010. This tiny 2 lb 1 oz boy overcame brain bleeds, severely underdeveloped lungs, apnea, heart and eye issues and so much more during his first few months of life. Today, Owen is a happy, healthy and bright child and he is one of the greatest joys in our lives! I often think back to when Owen entered the world and how each of our 75 days in the NICU affected me as a mother. And I didn't have a pandemic to deal with.
Shortly after Owen's homecoming, I began to work with Graham's Foundation. We are a non-profit organization that has always offered amazing virtual support for preemie families, both in the NICU, transitioning home with their child, or grieving the loss of the baby they desperately loved. We provide encouragement and an multiple services to those families who feel overwhelmed, lonely and isolated.
And times have only become more challenging. Many hospitals have added new restrictions on visitation in the NICU. Parents are sacrificing to protect all of the fragile among us. And what a heart wrenching sacrifice that is.
I'd like to raise $1k for Graham's Foundation in honor of Owen's 10th birthday! Did I mention that GoFundMe Charity is matching the first $1k in honor of GivingTuesdayNow?? If you give, add the first name of a preemie you would like to honor!
This year, May 3rd holds even more reasons to celebrate! We will be joining thousands of parents across social media to honor Parents of Preemies Day!
These last few weeks have been really hard. So let's celebrate the amazing blessings we have and support a cause that is working each day to lift parents up in this overwhelming time!
