Why We Need Your Help
In the current world of limited contact, music education has become ever more powerful and remains a field where connectivity survives. In the face of today’s crisis, The School for Strings successfully migrated its 5-part curriculum to a remote learning platform from day one.
50 years ago, we made a promise to be the home of music for every child who seeks one, regardless of background. Today, with education and after school programs in peril, our promise remains as pertinent as ever.
Who We Are
Long recognized as one of the leading music schools in the United States, The School for Strings nurtures and inspires thousands of young people to rise up to the challenges of playing a musical instrument and to the emotional, spiritual and intellectual demands of great music.
Our mission and Suzuki-based curriculum foster the love of music, self-confidence, and outstanding achievement in every student and cultivate a close-knit community by developing close partnerships with parents.
Started in the living room of the pioneering Miss Behrend with 5 children 50 years ago, the School for Strings has provided outstanding instrumental instruction to thousands of children and Suzuki teacher training to hundreds of graduates from the world’s finest conservatories.
The School for Strings is a truly special place. We want to keep it that way. But, we need your help.
1. 1st Goal of $25,000 additional financial aid and scholarship funds for our students.
2. 2nd Goal of $30,000 to support our faculty with an overall salary increase, to enhance online programming, and to continue masterclass offerings. In this trying time, we made the commitment to our teachers, passionate musicians and educators who give their all to our students.
- $500 allows us to offer a masterclass for students
- $1000 allows us to offer an additional class such as composition, improvisation, or chamber music coaching for a semester.
This 50th Anniversary year, more than ever, SFS needs your support. We know these are hard times for all. Any support for our students and teachers will go a long way.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We can't wait to connect with you and yours for an afternoon of music and camaraderie.
