For 2019, The Spokane Beard & Mustache Foundation has chosen to work with River's Wish Animal Sanctuary and Teen & Kid Closet!
River’s Wish offers sanctuary to rabbits, dogs, cats, goats, horses, donkeys, pigs, chickens, turkeys and more. It is the dream of River’s Wish, that every creature is able to live a full and joyful life. In 1995, they joined a local pet rescue group and their eyes were opened to the plight of animals in need. They have since fostered and placed hundreds of dogs, cats and rabbits. They expanded to help goats, horses and other animals in need. In 2004, they incorporated as a non-profit animal sanctuary. Their humane education program, ‘Compassion for Animals’ allows people to meet animals first hand and puts a story, personality and face behind the abstract notion of their species. Their hope is that compassion will decide the choices and direction humanity makes.
Teen and Kid Closet is all about dignity for an often overlooked population, children in need. The idea is simple. They give new or gently used clothing to children who need it. Their focus is youth in foster care or in poverty.
TKC is a brick and mortar shop in Spokane, serving all of eastern WA and North ID. Every shopper, from babies to young adults are welcome to their free shop. Each child has to be referred by someone of authority: social worker, school counselor, etc.
Most of the youth they serve have no other access to nice clothes. Many times they carry a few possessions around in a trash bag. And sometimes they don't even have that.
By partnering with community members to get clothing donations - and staffing all positions with volunteers - they leverage resources in a huge way. Together, we are helping our children and youth understand how much our community cares and believes in them.
Last year we raised over $17,000 for charity, and we are over $90,000 raised in 7 years! Thank you for your support!
