On December 15th, 2020, a young, ten pound chihuahua named Chuck was tossed over a wall into an industrial area where a large dog resided. The other dog brutally attacked Chuck leaving him for dead. Fortunately the owners of the property heard the attack and came running. They found Chuck barely breathly, but luckily still alive. Animal Control was called and Chuck was transported to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC). From there the staff at SPARC rushed Chuck to an emergency veterinary hospital.
Chuck is still recovering in the ICU. He suffers from severe internal injuries, broken ribs, a punctured lung and intercostal tears inside his chest. His treatment consists of IV fluids, antibiotics, oxygen, pain medication and a blood transfusion. Despite all of this, Chuck continues to fight for his life and his prognosis is looking very good. In fact, we hope to transfer him to a foster home in the next few days where he can continue to heal. Once he has made a full recovery, this sweet boy will go up for adoption. Our commitment to be a truly no-kill animal shelter means that we do not turn our backs on animals like Chuck. Those who deserve a fighting chance at life.
Chuck's medical bills have exceeded $10,000. We need your support now more than ever! As a 501c3 non profit animal shelter, Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center relies on financial support from the public to keep its no kill program going. All donations are tax deductible. Any monies raised in excess of our goal will be rolled over to our general medcai fund to help care for the other animals at our shelter.
Please know that every dollar counts! Thank you for your continued support, and for giving Chuck a "SPARC of hope".
