Three days ago, a staff member at the Union Rescue Mission was confirmed to have COVID-19. The whole 3rd floor (where he resides) went into lockdown, and my husband, Albert, who also works on the 3rd floor, was immediately quarantined in our storage room.
Since finding out that Albert (and the rest of our family) could have been exposed to the virus, the “what if’s” make me very anxious when I go down the black COVID-19 hole and think about my loved ones who live under the same roof, including my 1-year-old son, Nathan, and my elderly parents. The only thing keeping me sane is prayer... and Nathan who has no idea what’s going on.
Please pray for the URM staff member/resident who is currently in the ICU. Please pray for his 3 roommates and everyone who lives and works on the 3rd floor of the Union Rescue Mission. Please pray for the staff at the frontlines who risk their lives every day to care for those in need. Please pray for the homeless population because “shelter-in-place” means they might not have food to eat and “social distancing” might be a privilege they can’t afford. Please pray for those who don’t have access to clean water to wash their hands for 20 seconds (especially since the restauants and facilities they normally use are temporarily closed), hand sanitizer as a secondary measure, or toilet paper and other basic needs because people like us wipe out stores to hoard or even resell them.
The silver lining to all of this is that it made me stop complaining about being cooped up at home and makes me want to do my part in helping our brothers and sisters in need. I’ll be donating my stash of baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, and hand sanitizers that my sister gave me.
If you also want to share some of your own basic needs stash, please drop it off directly at the Union Rescue Mission in LA or any local shelter. I also set up this GoFundMe Charity so we can all pitch in to the Union Rescue Mission and they can continue to help meet the basic needs of the homeless population - such as food because the demand has risen 40% since the pandemic. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy everyone! 🙏
