***1/22: We have great news! We just found out that Simon was approved for a matching contribution up to $6,500! Now, every $1 we can raise will be $2 to help Dr Maklin! *****
Simon's teacher gave each student $5, and inspired them to use it to make a difference in the world.
Simon chose to contribute $20 of his own money to help raise money to complete the construction of a dormatory at New Hope Hospital in Plaine-du-Nord, Haiti. Simon's parent's (Matt & Kate) are matching his $20.
In October, 2019, Simon's Dad, went to Plaine-du-Nord, Haiti on a mission trip. While he was there, he visited New Hope Hospital and met Dr. Maklin.
Dr. Maklin has already accomplished the amazing task of raising funds and getting the hospital built, but the need for healthcare in this area is so significant, they need to grow. They cannot currently bring in more doctors, because they cannot provide them a place to stay. With this dormatory, they could host medical teams from the US, or house additional Haitian doctors. They have started construction already, but do not have the funds to complete construction.
The average annual income in this area of Haiti is less than $450 USD. Many of the patients are unable to pay for the cost of the services. New Hope does not turn patients away for lack of payment. They are a non-profit, largely relying on donations.
The total cost of the dormatory is $70,000 USD. They have already raised $35,000, and have begun construction. They are currently working to raise the remaining $35,000 to complete this project.
We appreciate any donation you are able to make. If you are able match Simon's $20 donation, Dr Maklin has agreed to have your name inscribed on the walls that are built with the funds from this campaign.
Our goal for this campaign is $1,000. As an incentive, if we get to $500, we will publish the outtakes from filming this (don't tell Simon's Mom!).
You can see Dr Maklin's video from 3 years ago when he was raising funds to complete the main hospital here.
Dr Maklin did a video tour of the hospital just this week so you can see the current state of New Hope Hospital! You can see his video here.
