The Grandville High School RoboDawgs need your help. We need to raise matching funds for a $39,900 State of Michigan grant that the program has been awarded - and we need to raise money to support our team's registration fees and travel costs to attend National and World level tournaments that our teams have qualified for. We have raised almost $200,000 with the help of Crowdrise over the last five years, and we need to raise another $39,900 over the next four weeks. Please make a donation if you can, share this fundraiser with others, and help us raise this matching money - and fund our competition at the National and World level. You can click here on Crowdrise to contribute - or you can send your check made out to the Grandville Academic Team Boosters to: GATB, PO Box 265, Grandville, MI 49468.
This year, we lost one of our major sponsors. Their business went through a major change, and they needed to reduce the contributions they had been making for years. This reduced the team's fundraising base by $50,000. But..... this year also brought good news. The State of Michigan expanded their support of robotics programs in public schools and we received our largest state grant ever - $39,900. Great news for our program - and now we need to raise matching funds. You can read a local article about the state grants, and the fact that Grandville's program received the largest grant award in our area here https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2018/12/kent-ottawa-schools-get-share-of-3m-for-robotics.html
Our high school teams have also had great success on the competition field this year. Our VEX robotics teams won more tournaments, earned more judged awards, and claimed more State of Michigan Championship slots than any other school in the state. We did very well at the State Championship, finishing as finalists on the field, winning the State Excellence Award, and winning the State Robot Skills competition. Of the fourteen teams moving on from the State Championship to the National and World Championship, we earned seven advancement slots. Seven RoboDawg teams will play in the US Open National Championship (Council Bluffs, Iowa) the first week of April and at the VEX World Championship (Louisville, Kentucky) the last week of April.
Our FIRST Robotics teams have just started their competition season, but they are also off to a great start. Team 288 was part of the winning alliance at our first event (St. Joseph, MI). All three of our FRC teams qualified in the top ten at our second event (Barrie, Ontario) - and team 244 received the Industrial Design Award.
