Did you know that the actual cost to spay & neuter an animal on the island of Molokai is about $250, but our local humane society has been able to charge just $30 thanks to financial support from Maui County? Seed Of Love Hawaii is calling on animal lovers and pet owners everywhere to join us in solidarity with Molokai's precious animals and help us raise enough money to cover the full cost of spay and neuter for least 100 animals. As a volunteer run (all two of us) animal rescue/foster site on Molokai, we have cared for countless unwanted, neglected, and abused animals. We know how important spay/neuter is and we know how important it is to the island of Molokai that it remains affordable.
The Molokai Humane Society provides critical & affordable (and the only) veterinary services on this rural island. In the upcoming county budget, the MoHS is going to be getting hit hard by government cutbacks. Even with the current subsidized veterinary services, many island residents still struggle to afford them. Any increase in cost will make the already challenging job our humane society has of keeping Molokai’s animal population in check & healthy, even harder. With zero animal control and enforcement on island, (we at Seed Of Love have been trying our best to fill fill the void) the Molokai Humane Society faces insurmountable odds in the best of times. They need more resources, not less. They need to be empowered to do what they do best and stop the exponential growth of a population of unwanted animals through outreach, education & affordable spay/neuter. Starving, neglected & abused animals pose a public health risk. Children are being bitten by stray dogs and entire herds of goats and sheep, and flocks of chickens and ducks are being killed by them, native birds are being eaten by feral cats, and cat feces has been linked to an increasing number of monk seal deaths through the spread of a parasite which can also infect other native wildlife and even humans, and entire liters of puppies are dying from the parvovirus. MoHS needs to be able to vaccinate as many animals as possible and continue to spay/neuter even more animals, certainly not less.
There are more and more stray dogs in horrific condition turning up every day, more and more feral cats roaming the entire island, no animal control officer trained to handle them, and less and less resources to properly care for them. As animal lovers and animal rescuers we want to make sure that the amazing staff at our humane society can afford the medical supplies they need and are able to continue spaying/neutering and vaccinating as many animals as possible, and continue providing excellent & affordable veterinary services. Please help Seed Of Love Hawaii offer at least 100 full spay/neuter sponsorships to Molokai residents in need of them. If you feel you have the financial means to do so, please consider funding a full $250 spay/neuter sponsorship, or donating as much as you can for this important cause. Every dollar will make a difference. Please help us spread the word & share this page widely.
