In 1987, we had a vision: to offer enrichment to children on school campuses, in place of childcare.
With that dream in mind, STAR became a leader in the nation in offering enrichment opportunities to K-8 students. STAR believed that through enrichment courses, children could explore real-life careers and set out on a course to succeed for the rest of their lives.
In the early 2000s, we were selected as a Model Program by the White House and the Department of Education. Today, we continue to advocate for enrichment in before and after school programs throughout America.
For over three decades, NO family has been turned away because of their inability to pay for our program. We have worked tirelessly to make sure that EVERY child, regardless of income, has access to our award-winning program. Because of this, LAUSD honored us this past November for our charitable work.
Currently, over 50% of our students are on a sliding scale payment plan, and OVER 30% PAY NOTHING AT ALL. We are committed to making sure every student succeeds, regardless of income level.
As STAR’s former Director of Education, I have seen firsthand how STAR staff supports California families and schools. I have observed our staff standing side by side with our families, long after their children have graduated from our programs. I have watched STAR’s team celebrate families in their most glorious moments and offer support in their darkest times.
I started this fundraiser because COVID-19 has dealt an enormous blow to public schools and the nonprofits who serve them. With schools closed for the unforeseeable future, STAR Education is cut off from funding, at a time when the organization is owed hundreds of thousands of dollars for delivered services. Our nonprofit, and the staff members who have tirelessly supported our community, are left vulnerable.
For over three decades, STAR Education has served and supported our school communities and the children we cherish. We are up against huge obstacles, but with your help, STAR doesn’t have to close its doors for good.
We believe in miracles. Please, make the miracle come true!
If you believe in the value of childhood enrichment for all children across the board, we need your help! If you are a STAR alumnus, donate to the nonprofit that served you and loves you still. If your life has in any way been touched by this nonprofit, please give whatever amount you can.
WE NEED YOU! PLEASE SAVE STAR!
Sincerely,
Dr. Karen Crozer
At the end of the fundraiser, all funds will be delivered to STAR’s CFO to support staff salaries, health insurance, and other critical operating expenses. All donations are tax-deductible.
