Chris is one of our adoptable kittens that came through our Trap-Neuter-Return project. We have had Chris since he was about 5 weeks old. He is the most sweetest kitten that you will ever meet. Chris went through all of his vetting and now that he was of age at 3.5 months he went up for adoption and was being housed at the PetSmart Adoption center.
Yesterday, we went in to see Chris extremely lethargic and horribly sick with an extreme upper respiratory infection. I rushed him to the ER at MedVet. He is currently getting 24hour care. He has been placed on a catheter and is getting iv fluids and iv antibiotics. He is not eating or defecating on his own. They have him in the oxygen chamber and are using a nebulizer since he's lungs are not clear. Today, they were doing critical care testing and when they put Chris down he was having a hard time walking and was unbalanced which worries the vet. They are concerned that there is an infection going on that is now effecting him neurologically and they have to run some more tests. They are not confident that he will be released to come home due to these new findings which means he will have to stay at the vet for a few more days. Currently, our bill is now at $2800 due to the new tests that they are taking. Chris was housed with 3 other kittens and his sister has started to sneeze so they are all starting on antibiotics today.
One of our supporters, who owns and loves a black cat, wanted to do a Black Cat Appreciation fundraiser to benefit the cats at WTRF on National Black Cat Appreciation day. However, when they found out about what happened with Chris and how dire his situation is along with the other cats in our care, they wanted us to do the fundraiser now as monetary donations are critical for us to cover Chris' vet bill as well as the other kittens in our care. Our supporter has graciously offered to match per dollar the first $1000 donated. Because our bill for Chris alone is already at $2800, Right now the need is simply so great it cannot be truly explained. In addition to the hospital bill for Chris; Whiskers & Tails has 13 additional kittens that need to be vetted in preparation to their being adopted. The vetting bill alone for these Kittens will be a minimum of $500 each. So PLEASE consider making a donation via this fundraiser so it can be matched or please consider calling directly to MedVet at 773-281-7110 to make a donation towards Chris' bill.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
