You know you are from Littleton if you stopped at the cast-iron fountain in front of Johnson's store at the Depot for a cool drink or, if you've heard the stories and wish you could have. New to Littleton? Maybe you've never noticed this treasure, it is in front of the new CK Bikes shop on Taylor Street. Check it out!
One of three in Littleton, the fountain at the Depot was given to the town by the Littleton Grange in 1912. Now over 100 years old, the fountain is in need of repair. David Erickson of Erickson's Antique Stoves, in the historic Depot building, has been contracted to do the work. The Littleton Historical Society is sponsoring a Community Preservation Fund request that will come in front of town meeting on October 17, 2020. The cost for the whole project is $12,400. The town meeting article requests a grant for $9,500 from CPA leaving $2,900 to be raised privately. Can you help? By contributing to our Go Fund Me campaign you can help restore the fountain (hopefully to full working order!) and preserve a centerpiece of the Depot neighborhood.
If we raise over $2900, we will be able to reduce the amount we take from the Community Preservation Fund Historic Reserve - a win for future historic projects.
If you prefer, you may mail a check to the Historical Society, PO Box 721, Littleton, MA 01460 (note Depot Fountain in memo field). Email Littleton.HistSociety@verizon.net for information.
