Trenton Cats Rescue (TCR) is an all volunteer, 501(c)3 non profit committed to helping community, sheltered and family cats in Trenton, New Jersey. TCR is foster based and has no physical building. Our volunteers take in sick, homeless, and sheltered kitties and make room in their homes until a permanent home is found. TCR is looking to purchase or lease a building to house these cats and kittens and supplies so we can help more of the cat population in the Trenton, New Jersey area.
The city of Trenton, NJ – like most urban areas of our country today – suffers from many economic and social difficulties, leaving very few resources to care for those who cannot care for themselves. Since our formation in late 2011, TCR has adopted out over 2500 cats and neutered over 2000 more through resident assistance and TNR programs. Additionally, our partnership with the Trenton Animal Shelter has been instrumental in decreasing their euthanasia rate for cats from almost 50% in 2010 to under 2% in 2017. In 2018, Trenton Cats Rescue adopted out over 550 cats and kittens and in 2019 we adopted out over 650 cats and kittens. Trenton Cats Rescue receives NO funding from any federal, state or city government organizations. We depend on the generosity of animal lovers like you to continue our vital work in protecting and improving the lives of cats and kittens. TCR's goal of securing a building would allow us to take in more cats and kittens and hold more adoption events as well as quarantine any sick cats without exposing other animals to them. It is our hope that we could eventually hire our own vet to come on a weekly basis to spay/neuter, vaccinate and microchip the kitties so we do not have to transport to low cost clinics.
Trenton Cats Rescue conducts humane, non-lethal methods of free roaming cat population management known as trap-neuter-return (TNR) primarily in the City of Trenton but also in surrounding areas; cares for cats in the Trenton Animal Shelter, removing them from the shelter system as soon as possible; conducts adoption events to place shelter and foster cats into permanent homes; participates in community events to raise awareness about spay and neuter services and how best to manage homeless cats; provides financial assistance where possible for spay and neuter and food and litter; helps area residents resolve behavioral problems to keep their pets in their homes.
All TCR cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), microchipped, and receive age appropriate vaccines, Rabies, dewormer, and flea medications. We take in very sick cats and kittens such as Tipsy, a cat who not only has Cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) but she had a dermoid causing hair to grow from her eye. The vet said it was like she had another eye lid with a set of long lashes in her eye. it was removed and she is as good as new.
Trenton Cats Rescue reserves the right to discontinue the building campaign if we do not meet our goal within 2 years of beginning the campaign. Should the campaign be discontinued, Trenton Cats Rescue will use the donated money to benefit the cats in our care.
With your help, you can make our dreams come true and make a lot of cats, kittens and families very happy! Thank you for considering our cause!
