While the federal government dithers and denies the increasing danger of global warming, Climate XChange acts. This year, we became the first climate-focused non-profit to steer carbon-pricing legislation through a state legislative chamber (the MA state senate), an historic accomplishment. Next year, we intend to pass it through the MA House and across the governor's desk, making Massachusetts the first state in the nation to pass this transformative legislation.
Many say that "As Massachusetts goes, so goes the nation," (our reason for starting there), but Maryland is fast on its heels. In this state, two visionary legislators, Delegate Fraser-Hidalgo and Senator Ben Kramer, have drafted carbon pricing legislation to be introduced in the 2019 session. (As of this writing, a name and number for the bill has not been produced, but stay tuned - we will have it by January 1st.) Foremost among their needs is a public poll to assess support for carbon pricing.
Polls are expensive, and we need your help. Can you chip in? Your efforts will serve a concrete purpose, which is to make real a policy the IPCC report says is "central to prompt mitigation” of climate change? Let's give MA a run for its money and see if we can pass legislation here in MD first.
