Hepatozoon Americanum?!? WTH?!? Well, it just so happens that it is a tick-borne disease that is very rare and without treatment will result in death.
Unforunately, one of our newest rescues with Dolly's Legacy Animal Rescue, Miss Mary Kate, has been diagnosed with it.
Since arriving a few weeks ago into our rescue, Mary Kate has been not been feeling great and her foster mom was trying everything to get Mary Kate to eat and feel better. Visits to our local vet in Lincoln, NE and a trip to K-State Vet Hospital resulted in a diagnosis of Hepatozoon Americanum.
We now have Mary Kate set up on her medication regimen and she has a foster mom that is committed to getting Mary Kate healthy!! Mary Kate's foster mom says that she is a fighter and such a good girl that deserves a chance to successfully fight this disease.
Mary Kate's vet expenses so far have exceeded $1000 and her medication plan is rather expensive--we have our local vet seeking the most cost-effective vendor.
Please consider a donation of any amount to go directly towards the care of Mary Kate and help this precious girl fight this unfortunate disease!
