It started as a summer job working at New York City's Y Sleepaway Camp and turned into so much more. My Y Story started 20 years ago as a camp counselor working with predominantly NYC children who had never experienced nature and the great outdoors. Sounds of crickets and bullfrogs were foreign and sometimes scary as they navigated this new environment. After my first summer, I kept going back until I realized I could make a career out of this. This was almost 20 years ago.
Fast forward to today where I still work at the Y, impacting children and families each day but in a more indirect way. I work with our staff, Y members, the community and our Board of Managers to bring awareness to the Y and our mission to empower youth, improve health and strengthen community.
With today's working families and the struggle to make ends meet many families have to make tough financial decisions each month. The need to have a safe place for their child to go after school, to experience camp, to be safe around water, have basketball dreams, dance on or just having access to a safe place to hang out, is why I need your help.
Your donation of $75 can help create a fun Saturday night for teens in our Teen Center. A gift of $250 can help 2 kids build self confidence and get fit through an 8 week basketball program, $500 will help 5 preschoolers express themselves through the joys of dance and $1000 can help a family make togetherness a priorty through a family membership.
Help me reach my goal of $1500 to help our Ridgewood YMCA families. 100% of your donation goes directly to those in need.
