Amanda and Kelly are "traveling with purpose" to Nepal in March to support LOCWOM, a women-led nonprofit working to empower one woman at a time! We're incredibly excited to experience something completely new, while learning about the Nepali culture and LOCWOM's impact on women locally. While we're at it, our goal is to raise $5k for this powerful cause.
Nasreen Sheikh, the strength and spirit behind it all, escaped a forced marriage and factory-slave labor as a child (Nasreen's story: TED Talk). She is working tirelessly and with very few resources to empower the women of Nepal and give them financial independence through the creation of handmaid, fair trade, local handicrafts. Check them out here.
Nasreen's work in Nepal has been going on a long time, but the nonprofit (of which Amanda is a board member) is just over one-year-young. With Nasreen's leadership, the board (all women) came together and decided to launch the first-ever "travel with purpose" event.
Amanda and Kelly, long-time college friends, are embarking on this Nepali adventure together. This nine-day cultural experience includes the famous Holi Color Festival, a Hindu spring festival which signifies the victory of good over evil, visiting heritage sites and the Local Women's Handicrafts Cooperative shop in Kathmandu, and participating in a revelatory self-empowerment workshop. And that's just the start. Think Healing Circle of trust and sisterhood. Workshop on the feminine womb space. Praying for world peace with hundreds of monks.
To be clear, we're paying for all our travel logistics. Beyond that, we hope to raise awareness and funds to support the important work happening there as we learn more about it through this journey. Your contribution would directly benefit the local organization and we'd be so grateful if you'd consider donating. We look forward to sharing photos and stories about this once-in-a-lifetime event with you when we return!
Thank you in advance for supporting LOCWOM and the collective mission to empower and mentor women. With your support, LOCWOM is continuing their vision to build women’s empowerment centers, schools, and community clinics in rural areas of Nepal.
