The Island Theater in Fleming Island is non-profit 501C community theater in Fleming Island, Fl. Like most small businesses, it has been hit hard by the necessary and mandatory closing of non-essential business and social distancing necessary to ensure public safety. The arts though are essential to our emotional and intellectual well being and growth as human beings.
However, our theater has expenses that have to be paid even if we can't hold performances and classes. The rent, utilities and storage aren't free and our landlord does require us to pay rent even while we are shut down. In order to come back to our theater once we can reopen, we are asking for and need donations to make it possible. Without them, we face having to close the doors forever.
We realize this is the plight of so many small businesses in America right now and there are many people out of work as a result of this health crisis. So it may not be in your ability to donate right now but any amount will help us get to our goal. By creating this campaign, we also may be eligible for matching funds from other chartible organizations as well. But even if you can't afford to donate, you can help us by sharing this campaign and letting people know about it.
When in full operation, The Island Theater regularly reaches out to the community by holding charity nights and donating funds to area charities as well as offering scholarships for classes and workshops to make theater accessible. We want to keep this going for the community once the health crisis passes. Some of our future plans include holding events in our venue for some of the creative things people have come up with during their seclusion including a fashion show and also an event for displaced Thespians to perform their state pieces and school shows that were unable to continue despite being close production.
Suspension of activiites has impacted our current productions and workshops. Unfortunately, without a show - the theater won't see the monies invested into productions and workshops until well after we are required to pay our upcoming bills. In the meantime, we have been offering virtual rehearsals and virtual workshop sessions to keep the spirit alive with our actors and clients.
To enhance your donation, we are offering four tickets to the production of your choice for every $25 donated. Once we can get back into the theater, we will also be organizing a donor performance to thank all our donors for their gifts. This will be a free performance for each and every donor no matter how much they were able to give. In this way, we will celebrate our victory over this horrible virus.
