India is experiencing an unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak which has led to the virtual collapse of the Indian healthcare system. The scene is beyond the imagination of even the most creative horror film writer. Patients are walking into hospitals with oxygen cylinders in tow. In many hospitals, patients are dying because the oxygen generators are simply unable to keep up with demand. Meanwhile vaccines are in short supply and hospital beds are scarce. With the virus spreading at an unprecedented rate, cities are going into lockdowns. Many daily wage workers will be without any means to earn.
We, the Alumni of the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), are seeking your donations to send immediate help to the many organizations who are doing their level best in keeping people alive and fed.
Your donations will support the following projects:
Oxygen Plan at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU. The JNMC Hospital at AMU seeks to acquire a new oxygen plant that will supply oxygen to nearly 250 additional beds. - UPDATE: This is now the primary focus of the campaign.
Oxygen Cylinders for the poor - Local NGOs are seeking to fund the acquisition of oxygen cylinders that can be provided to those who cannot afford the exorbitant charges in the private market. $300 will support the acquisition of one Oxygen cylinder. Our goal is to acquire 20 cylinders. - UPDATE: 20 Oxygen cylinders have been procured and deployed to help the needy.
Feed the indigent - Local NGOs and our informal network of friends are trying to keep up with the deluge of request to keep the poor and indigent fed as daily wage work evaporates. $15 will support one family of 4 for a month. Our goal is to support 1,000 families - UPDATE: 600 families have been helped. Provisions for 72,000 meals have been distributed
The situation is dire and will remain so in the near future. We are working with local partners in India to ensure long term sustainability of our desire to feed the needy and oxygenate those gasping for air. You can help.
