Goal: $3,000 is needed to purchase a display refrigerator, benches and picnic table to improve our Farmers Market area that will provide a vibrant community space on the West Side of Stamford, Connecticut.
Imagine the Fairgate Farm Farmers Market with a new seating area for patrons, volunteers and friends to take in the beauty of the Farm and enjoy each other’s company. We will create a casual seating area where visitors may socialize with fellow “foodies”, learn new recipes and gardening skills, and experience the life-affirming benefits of organic produce. The seating area will give the community a unique place to shop for wholesome, affordable food, mingle with others and enjoy all the Farm has to offer.
The display refrigerator at the Fairgate Farmers Market will assist in meeting the growing demand for nutritious produce among the West Side residents who have limited access at reasonable cost. Currently, the Market does not have the capacity to sell goods that must be kept chilled. So, items like delicate greens and other perishable products must be purchased at expensive corner stores or distant markets. By providing refrigerated items, the Market will better serve the needs of our community and further contribute to a vibrant local food economy in an area with limited resources.
$3,000 will provide us with the following:
Sliding Glass Door Merchandise Refrigerator $2,000.00
Cedar Wood Outdoor Garden Benches (2) $ 400.00
Outdoor Patio Picnic Table $ 600.00
Fairgate Farm is a program of the Vita Health & Wellness Partnership and is led by Farm Manager Pete Novajosky. It offers a packed schedule of community events and activities including annual volunteer luncheons and gardening workshops and spring and fall festivals, and hosts many schools and organizations from throughout our community. Entering its tenth growing season (!), Fairgate Farm has boosted awareness on the importance of eating nutritious fruits and vegetables, respecting nature and building community cohesion. It harvests thousands of pounds of fruits, herbs and vegetables annually which are donated back to the volunteers, hunger-relief agencies, soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
