Launched in 2003, India Community Center is today the largest community center in the US serving our diaspora. It provides a great platform for all people of Indian descent to come together under its non-political, non-religious and non-regional platform to truly Unite, Serve and Celebrate our wonderful community.
In particular, ICC is very proud that we are transforming the lives of our seniors and providing them a “Home away from Home.” Our Senior members get the gift of camaraderie with people similar to them, gift of discovering and developing their passions, and gift of laughter and love in a safe, welcoming, and culturally familiar environment.
On Saturday, March 7th we took the decision to cancel all our senior programs, for our most vulnerable group of members, in Milpitas, Cupertino and Palo Alto to keep our community safe due to threat from COVID-19. However, our Seniors were lonely and felt isolated at home! To address that we launched the "ICC Virtual Senior Programs" for our all three Centers in Milpitas, Cupertino & Palo Alto. Please see below information regarding our Virtual Senior Program:
We offer daily Zoom video sessions with our seniors in Palo Alto, Cupertino, and Milpitas. Touching 100 seniors every day during various sessions: Virtual Yoga, Meditation, Karaoke, Bollywood Dance, Music, and Discussion Forums. Senior Program Zoom Schedule
Due to the increasing threat of COVID-19, we closed our facilities on March 14th and stopped all our other programs as well. Since then we have lost all sources of revenue! ICC is expecting to have over $500,000 in deficit due to this closure because of cancellation of memberships, classes and banquet rentals. Due to the stringent financial controls in place, we had been able sustain our staff till end of March. With the extension of the closure to possibly May 3rd, a decision was taken to place all our full time staff on furlough. We had to take this exceptionally hard decision so enable ICC to preserve our limited resources so that we are well placed to reopen as soon as we are able to and re-engage our staff.
You will be amazed to know that despite being on furlough, all the full time staff have agreed to work as volunteers so that they can continue to serve our community allowing us to continue to offer all our virtual programs and senior meals during this extended closure.
With zero revenue, ICC is still continuing to operate but we have fixed costs that we still incur. With all the uncertainty about when we will be able to resume operations, we are looking at all sources of funds, from loans to grants as well as donations. That is why we are requesting your support, whatever you are able to donate will help us. We request you to help ICC’s Virtual Senior Program Triumph over the Reality of COVID-19! Our newest Board Member, Rajashree Srirangarajan, will match your donation dollar for dollar till $5,000, so donate today to double the impact of your donation!
To those of you who have donated already, we give our heartfelt thank you.
“To help get the word out, you can share the link to your Facebook Timeline!”
We love serving our seniors and want to continue to do that for as long as we can. Till we can begin in-person programs, we will continue to offer the virtual programs for our seniors who are eagerly trying the new platform, loving being technically savvy and enjoying the camaraderie of their friends even when isolated! At ICC, we are refusing to let Coronavirus beat our spirits, especially the spirits of our seniors!
