Little Hanna arrived at OAS in terrible pain. Earlier this month, she was picked up by OAS officers as a stray, and the vet determined that this sweet girl had been living on the streets with a broken leg and torn ligaments--likely the result of being hit by a car. OAS quickly teamed up with one of our adoption partners, Nobody's Perfekt Dogs, to help her get the medical care she desperately needs. Now, Friends of Oakland Animal Services needs your help to raise $1800, which will cover the half of Hanna's medical bills we have committed to funding.
Upon her arrival at the shelter, Hanna, likely an Australian Kelpie mix, was immediately placed on serious pain medication, and an orthopedic specialist determined her broken front leg would have to be amputated. The surgery happened just three days later.
Hanna is now recovering in foster care with Nobody's Perfect Dogs. However, she is not yet out of the woods. She is scheduled for a second surgery on Monday, February 3--this time to repair her torn ACL, a painful ligament injury. FOAS and Nobody's Perfekt are splitting the costs for both of Hanna's surgeries as we team up to give this girl a fighting chance at a pain-free life. FOAS is able to make commitments of medical funding in emergency cases like Hanna's because we know that you, our donors, will not let them down. Please give today, any amount you can, to help us cover our commitment for Hanna's lifesaving surgeries.
Her foster mom reports that Hanna has already bonded with her, following her around the house, and that the sweet pup likes to play with the family's three other dogs (including another OAS rescue). However, it is clear that her ACL is giving her a lot of discomfort, and when the dogs play games like tug-of-war, Hanna can't keep up. Following her ACL repair surgery, Hanna will be on strict cage rest until she is fully recovered.
Without the support of adoption partners like Nobody's Perfekt, and FOAS donors like you, a dog like Hanna--a seriously injured stray arriving at a busy city shelter--simply would not have a chance at a happy, pain-free life. Thank you for helping us make a difference for her. Please donate to Hanna's medical fund today!
