There is much tragedy and despair in the world today. The pandemic and other global issues are overwhelming and bringing misery to millions. Each day Border Kindness provides life saving assistance to the hemisphere’s most vulnerable populations. We also work to address the root causes of inequities; and, sometimes we take on a small battle, simply because it is the right thing to do.
If you have ever loved a dog please keep reading. Michael (not actual name) is a middle-aged man who lives in a border community in Mexico. Michael works and has a stable income. He makes barely enough money to survive and often has had to sleep in shelters or shared environments. He has struggled with depression and works to care for himself and others. He is a member of LGBTQ community and has always experienced discrimination and harassment. Border Kindness has known Michael for more than two years and has watched him nurture and care for others – including refugees seeking asylum in the USA who were returned to Mexico.
Pink is a terrier mix. She is about 4 years old. Pink was a street dog until being passively adopted and cared for by residents of a migrant shelter. Pink had several litters of puppies until Mojave Animal Protection, a local animal welfare organization, provided her with veterinary care. She is now spayed, vaccinated and healthy. Michael and Pink became inseparable when, for a period of almost one year, they lived at the same shelter. For reasons beyond his control neither Michael, nor Pink can now live at the shelter they shared.
Pink is being boarded at a veterinary clinic in Mexico. Several wonderful families in the USA have offered to adopt her. Michael is currently staying in a motel being funded by Border Kindness. It is unsafe for Michael (or anyone) to sleep outside. Michael loves Pink, and Pink loves and adores Michael. Before sending Pink to a new home in the USA we have decided to try to make a small miracle happen. Mojave Animal Protection has offered to continue to provide Pink with food and veterinary care and Border Kindness, with the help of you, wants to provide Michael with the same safety and stability. We are hoping to raise enough money to assist Michael in securing a safe, comfortable forever home (apartment) for himself and Pink. This may be the first kindness and generosity Michael has been shown. A clean, safe warm apartment where he can be himself and be with a companion animal who both loves and needs his care. Michael is a brave and good man who hopes to live in dignity, and to share his life with Pink.
Border Kindness leadership will cover all administrative cost and fees related to this fundraiser. We are hoping that anyone who has ever experienced the depth of a loving relationship with a companion animal will consider making a small donation. We want to help Michael rent and maintain a dignified and safe home for himself and Pink. The funds will be used to rent and furnish this living space. At Michael’s request (and for his safety) Border Kindness will keep these funds secure in bank account and pay monthly bills related to housing.
