The Faces of Homelessness
When our next client was promised help by a similar organization and then told she could no longer receive services because she decided to move a few blocks into a "safer" neighborhood, we knew we had to schedule an emergency #MoveInDay! After we received the necessary paperwork from her caseworker at Catholic Charities, we got to work! Here is a bit of her backstory in her own words...
"Seven weeks into my pregnancy I walked in to find my partner with another woman after finding out he had cleared my bank account. That night he left, giving an entirely different meaning to "April Fool's". I was ashamed and newly pregnant with no money and nowhere to go.
Several months later I gave birth to my son in a maternity shelter. The reality of my life began to weigh in...I was HOMELESS with a CHILD. Postpartum depression set in...the scariest and most emotionally confusing time of my life. None of it made easier by the verbal, emotional and mental abuse I would receive via text, emails and voicemails from my son's father.
I never wanted to be a single mom without the support of another, but my son is my strength and my reason for living. He is my everything.
I am excited, grateful and still in shock that the Home 2 Home Project will be creating a HOME for my son and I that we can be proud of!"
