"What defines success? This is something I have thought a lot about over the almost 10 years of running Secondhand Hounds. We have had lots of 'success' - in terms of being a big rescue, saving lots and lots of lives, and fundraising. But I think that true success is maximizing our hard work, our luck, and our love of animals by filling gaps in our community. What does this mean exactly? It means Forever Loved: SHH Hospice. It means Fighter Fund, for victims of abuse and neglect. It means SHH Hope, where our volunteers and their animals visit senior living communities.
For this 5K9 we are focusing on one such program: Secondhand Hounds Outreach. Our efforts have been focused on White Earth Reservation and Mille Lacs Reservation where we have been able to provide low or no cost veterinary medicine to thousands of animals. We have saved the lives of dogs starving after a run in with a porcupine. We have prevented unwanted litters. We have gotten to know incredible people from the reservations who are committed to helping us spread a mindset of compassion and protection for animals. We want to keep going. But, each clinic costs us a minimum of $12,500 and we are continuously asked to do more, be bigger, save more lives. We don't want to say no, we want to say yes. Help us say yes by fundraising to YOUR maximum ability so we can continue serving our communities. So we can fulfill our definition of true success, with generous supporters like you!" --Rachel Mairose, SHH Founder
We also would like to note that if you have a different Secondhand Hounds program close to your heart that you want your fundraising efforts to benefit, you sure can! You just need to let us know.
