Help feed 62 orphans in Nepal.
The Rotary Club of Fort Collins - After Work ("RAW") supports three orphanages in Kathmandu. Because of Covid-19, the 62 children only have enough food for a week.
Nepal is one of the least developed countries in the world and is largely dependent on tourism (for Everest and the Annapurna region) and exporting workers to the Gulf countries. Most farmers eke out a subsistence living and many necessities are imported from India.
The Covid-19 virus has halted all financial resources for most Nepalese people and many food deliveries to Kathmandu. The pandemic has created a serious shortage of food especially for Nepal’s most vulnerable children – those living in the orphanages. There is no government support and Katmandu is in lock-down.
We need to raise $950 a month to feed the three orphanages with 62 orphans. RAW along with Empowering Opportunities (managed by a club member) provides access to education for these children and helps provide emergency assistance when needed. Because of Covid-19, there is an urgent need to find additional financial support so these children will not go hungry or, worse, starve.
We need $17,000 to provide basic food for all 62 children for the rest of the year. RAW has pledged nearly one quarter of that total from club funds and matching grants. We need to raise another $13,000.
