The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, like many others, has temporarily closed for the safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers and visitors. Even though our doors are closed, our work continues for our resident and rehabilitating animals.
We care for over 67 resident animals, including 23 birds (owls, hawks, falcons, vultures, mourning dove and Rosie the pigeon), snakes, turtles, frogs, fish, rabbits, and guinea pigs, who all continue to need us and who still need to be fed and cared for daily.
Igor and Ezra our two turkey vultures love leftovers and help by recycling uneaten food, but the rest have finer taste and require fresh mice - lots of them! Our biggest eaters are certainly Frank and Wanda, our Red-tailed Hawks.
This is traditionally our busiest season of the year with hundreds of school field trips, birthday parties, and programs that normally help to pay the bills. With these programs cancelled or postponed, we’re asking for your support if you are able to contribute. Gifts of any size will help us provide food and care to Mr. Bill, ET, Rosie and the whole gang at the Nature Center. Thank you!
