Help Families Impacted By Home Fires: Northeast Ohio

Home fires are a significant threat to our communities, killing seven people every day.

That’s why the Red Cross of Northeast Ohio provides home-fire preparedness training, free smoke alarms, and care to those who need to rebuild their lives after losing everything.  In the month of May, we installed nearly 3,400 smoke alarms, helping make more than 1,400 homes in our region safer.

In the early morning hours of July 1st, Red Cross disaster workers responded to simultaneous fires near downtown Cleveland - one in a high-rise apartment building, the other in a row of townhouses. Nearly two-dozen people received Red Cross assistance – including 17 children. They received almost $5,000 in immediate financial assistance, to help them find a safe place to stay, get a warm meal, or whatever their individual needs were. They also received assurance that someone was there for them during such a trying time.

Home fires are scary, but not unique. On average, the Red Cross of Northeast Ohio responds to three home fires each day.

But we can’t be there without the support of neighbors like you. Please donate today and help us raise $3,000 by July 31st so we can help neighbors recover.  Your gift will help families affected by home fires, by providing assistance throughout the community.  Your gift will help the Red Cross prepare, respond, and help families recover from home fires.
