Help Families Impacted By Home Fires

It’s a site you hope you never wake up to – a fire ablaze in your room.

Dan Simcox, a Red Cross volunteer with the Lake to River Chapter, recently responded to a fire at the Meridian Greene Senior Living Apartments in Wintersville. He and other disaster responders helped nearly 40 senior citizens whose homes had been damaged.  “It’s really gratifying to help people in difficult circumstances, knowing that with a little bit of help they’re going to bounce back,” Dan said. “I’m always impressed by the resilience of the American people.”

During their darkest hours, Northeast Ohio residents receive help and hope from people like Dan, who help them with the means to find a temporary place to stay, something to eat, and comfort in knowing they weren’t alone.

Home fires are scary, but not unique. On average, the Red Cross of Northeast Ohio responds to three home fires each day.

That’s why the Red Cross of Northeast Ohio provides home-fire preparedness training, free smoke alarms, and care to those who need to rebuild their lives after losing everything.  In just the last month, we’ve installed nearly 4,000 smoke alarms, helping make more than 1,600 homes in our region safer.

But we can’t be there without the support of neighbors like you. Please donate today and help us raise $1,000 by June 30th so we can help neighbors recover.   Your gift will help families affected by home fires, throughout the local community.  Your gift will help the Red Cross prepare, respond, and help families recover from home fires.
