Nowruz is a colorful visual celebration, with the sounds of happy families and the smell of delicious food wafting through the air. But what if you or a loved one could not smell or even breathe properly and did not want to be seen in public - How unimaginable would that be?
When she was just seventeen Delbar’s family forced her into a marriage in Afghanistan to an older man of her father’s age. As is customary in Afghan society, money changed hands. Delbar’s father was insistent that the husband had agreed to make a second payment. A dispute broke out between Delbar’s father and her husband. Delbar took her father’s side and the husband took out his revenge on Delbar and in a vicious act he cut her nose off.
After four unsuccessful surgeries in Afghanistan and India, Delbar is still struggling to breathe and has a bulbous deformed mass, as a result.
Fortunately Delbar is now enrolled in OMID’s Parvaneha program. A personalized program is being developed for Delbar at OMID to address her unique requirements for substantial long-term therapeutic help and her limited math and literary skills.
She still needs more operations. Total costs are estimated to be $17,250. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in order to also cover aftercare costs. After this treatment Delbar will have her nose back and will also be able to breathe properly, start to rebuild her confidence and self-esteem, and start to live life again as any other young woman.
Please help Delbar to get surgery and aftercare she needs to be able to rebuild her life.
Please support our Nowruz appeal today. Thank you for your generosity.
