PRECIOUS 10 Month old Deke Must Have DOUBLE Leg Surgery.
Funny, sweet, energetic, Deke recently came to our rescue, Lucky Labs Rescue. We are a 501 (c) (3) located in the Charlotte NC area.
This boy absolutely CHARMED every person he met but we immediately noticed there was something VERY WRONG with his front legs! They were oddly bent inwards at both wrist joints. Despite his deformity, he still LOVED to run and play. He was super affectionate and outgoing but he did NOT want his ankles to be touched and recoiled in pain!
X Rays revealed our darling boy suffered with bilateral (both legs) CARPAL VALGUS. This condition happens when the two bones in the front lower legs - the radius and the ulna - grow at different rates or one of the bones stops growing altogether but the other continues to grow. As the one bone continues to grow, it puts TREMENDOUS pressure on the ankle joint and will eventually make walking EXTREMELY PAINFUL if not IMPOSSIBLE!
To correct this, Deke has to have a VERY COMPLICATED AND SPECIALIZED SURGERY. He will require a CT scan of both legs which will then be sent to a company that specializes in printing 3D models of the limbs. These models will then be used to determine EXACTLY where to cut the bones to make them even and strong. Once they are cut, they will be held in place with a bone plate while the bones mend back together. The recovery time will be around 12 weeks and we have a wonderful foster family in place.
This is an EXTREMELY expensive surgery but the alternative - that Deke will eventually be in too much pain to walk- is just NOT an option!
The CT scan, 3D models and surgery are estimated at $10,000. Please help us raise the funds needed to make this SPECIAL boy whole again by donating!
