Free books for Winooski Kids!
Help Dad Guild bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to Winooski. We need to raise $3,000 so Winooski kids, ages 0-5, can receive a free book every month for the next 2 years...and beyond. Once our campaign hits its goal, all children ages 5 & under living in Winooski will begin receiving free books every month once their family registers for the program.
Why are kids books so important?
-A UK study conducted by The National Literacy Trust found that kids who have books are six times more likely to read above their grade level.
-According to a 20-year worldwide study, having 500 books in the home advances a child 3.2 years in their education.
-Evidence published in the journal Social Science Research found that "being surrounded by lots and lots of books where they live helps children build vocabularly, increase awareness and comprehension, and expand horizons — all benefiting them in adulthood".
Winooski is home to around 500 children under 5 years of age from across the economic and racial spectrum. This program, which provides monthly access to free books to all children ages 0-5, is already available in the neighboring City of Burlington.
