American Lyric Theater (ALT) is exclusively dedicated to empowering the composers and librettists that are writing the operatic masterpieces of tomorrow. For more than 10 years, ALT has been devoted to cultivating emerging opera composers and librettists in the United States. Since inception, ALT alums have debuted numerous critically-acclaimed operas nationwide and received commissions from companies like the Metropolitan Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Since I joined the Composer Librettist Development Program in 2011, ALT has been a staunch supporter of my work and has impacted my creative journey more than any other individual or institution. Through outstanding mentorship and multiple generous developmental opportunities, it has helped me grow tremendously as an opera storyteller and composer. Currently, Tony Asaro and I are preparing for an orchestral workshop of our adaptation of Ray Bradbury's "The Halloween Tree" and are tremendously grateful that ALT is making that happen! All of the operas we love were once world premieres.
This cycle must continue. Help ALT continue their transformative work of supporting emerging composers and librettists by giving them the tools to ensure that today’s premieres can become tomorrow’s classics.
Please consider contributing to the future of American opera. All your contributions will be DOUBLED by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation!
