Thor, our Rescue GSD, rescued in June of 2020. Since we had rescued Thor, from Euthanazia list at shelter, he had been having several issues, including difficulty walking. Thor would lose balance and sometimes trip and fall. We had multiple consultations with neurology, orthopedic specialists at a few clinics: already had completed MRI, x-ray, blood/lab work, specialists evaluations and follow-ups.
We do not know much about him, he was found by a security guard by a mall in San Jose, and brought to the shelter.
Over the past few months, Thor has been working with a team of specialists, including Physical therapists, a Neurology specialist, and Orthopedic surgeon, to address the condition of his hind legs. It was determined that he has disc ruptures in his spine. By recommendation of his vet, he has been receiving Physical therapy which seemed to help initially. It was going very well for a few months, even though we knew Thor's condition can not be completely healed, Physical Therapy has been helpful and making a difference, especially in pain management, gaining overall muscle strength, to help him walk better! But recently we have been noticing that Thor has a decline in his mobility. His hind legs seem to have less and less strength and coordination. Additional recent x-ray have shown that he has a cruciate tear in his knee, and was recommended TPLO surgery. Thor has an upcoming appointment with the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital to consult with their neurology specialist and determine the best course of action for Thor’s care from here. While we currently do not know all the next steps, we are anticipating the following potential expenses:
TPLO Surgery - $4891.00, this is not including Post Surgery Physical Therapy Pain Medication Pet Wheels costs.
Thor is a very sweet and smart dog, he loves people, and is very affectionate and playful. We do not know much about him, he was found by a security guard by a mall in San Jose, and brought to the shelter. Thor has a wonderful and caring foster, who takes very nice care, takes to the appointments and follow ups. We were planning that Thor would be adopted sooner, but due to his decline, he is still under our Rescue care, until Thor may be lucky and blessed to find his own family.. Every little bit helps, $5, $20 or any amount will help us to reach the goal and be able to help Thor.
We hope very much he will be able to walk pain-free again!
