Physical distancing may have been the kickstart the sustainability movement needed. All over the world, reduced human activity has allowed the planet to begin healing itself, proving just how impactful human actions are on the environment. If we act now, we can start to build a new 'normal' that protects our planet for generations to come.
For the past year, Habits of Waste has helped the average individual identify and change 'habits of waste' in their everyday lives. Campaigns like #CutOutCutlery have been hugely successful in changing waste behavior and reducing unnecessary plastic waste -- in March 2020, our community helped to prevent over 3.5 million single-use plastic utensils from being sent in food deliveries across Los Angeles.
While physical distancing has undoubtedly given us a head start, it also forced us to cancel all of our spring events, including our One Year Anniversary fundraiser this April. Without these events, we are significantly behind our fundraising goals for the year. Without your support, we will be forced to scale back on significant sustainability programming, including our hugely successful #CutOutCutlery campaign.
Now is the time to step up, not back. With your support, Habits of Waste will be able to continue running all of our programs through the pandemic, helping to create a new 'normal' that protects our planet and ensures a sustainable future.
