This is a crazy world that we are finding ourselves in. The Covid-19 Crisis is impacting people in so many ways.
Here is how it is impacting Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, Inc and our mission to save Boston Terriers who are lost, abandoned or surrendered regardless of age, health or adoptability:
- Many lower cost veterinarians that we use have either closed temporarily, reduced their service capacity, or are not performing nonessential procedures like spaying/neutering. As a result, in many cases, we are having to use more expensive vets or we are having to delay procedures because of scheduling backlogs. The longer a foster dog stays in care, the more expenses we incur.
- Requests to surrender dogs have increased.
- Due to economic uncertainty, adopters are less likely to be able to afford adoption fees or the costs associated with owning a dog.
- As part of the approval process for our adoption applicants, we require a home visit, which we always prefer to have a volunteer do in person. To reduce the risk of spreading the virus, we have performed some virtual home visits, but many cannot or should not be done this way. Delays in being able to complete the approval process, especially for the adopters willing to take the harder-to-place Boston Terriers, mean that we incur additional expenses caring for these dogs in our foster homes.
We have some AMAZING supporters and we need you now MORE THAN EVER to help us through these uncertain times. It is only with your financial support that our fosters and volunteers can continue the great work we do to help save so many Boston Terriers in need.
