As most of you know, Brasil Brasil Cultural Center has been committed to the Arts for over 30 years, dedicating our lives to creating a safe space for Afro Diaspora arts, artists, educators, students and families. We have used the beautiful art forms of capoeira, drumming, music, dance, and fitness, as vehicles to heal, support and care for the well being of our community and for the youth. We have worked hard to create a safe space for people to gather, learn, grow, celebrate and also for people to confront more difficult social justice issues through our Peaceful Warrior initiative.
Since the beginning of the Pandemic, we have been hopeful that we will be able to make it through and re-open our doors to our very dear community. While we attempted to open a few times, conditions and restrictions due to COVID has prohibited us from doing so.
The time has come for us to humbly ask for your help and support as the operating costs associated with keeping the space open are accumulating after 9 months of being closed. It has been heart breaking to see so many local and family driven businesses and organizations close in recent months and we really hope that Brasil Brasil Cultural Center, the longest standing Afro Brazilian hub on the westside of Los Angeles, will not be next.
We are not ready to throw in the towel. We owe it not only to ourselves, but to all the artists, to all the kids and their families, and to all the lovers of the arts to keep pushing through these difficult times. While we are realistic and know we will not be able to reopen right away, we are hopeful that we will be able to reopen in the first half of 2021.
We want to be ready! We want to thrive! We want the place that so many of you call a second home to be full of life and music and energy again. We want to continue to offer you all programs, classes, events, and life changing experiences. Our work is not done, there is still so much to do.
Please consider making a tax-deductable donation to Brasil Brasil Cultural Center and sharing this GoFundMe campaign with you loved ones, your communities and your families. Thank you for your trust in us over the years and thank you for continuing to believe in us, our work and our mission. We are committed to the arts, to you, and to the next generation.
