Imagine you have a medical emergency, but there are no ambulances to take you to the hospital. What would you do? This is the reality for most of the residents of the country of Belize. Belize Heroes, based in Richmond, Virginia, has recently secured two ambulances that are being donated to the Belize National Fire Service, and is raising funds to support a pilot program that will train Belizean firefighters and citizen volunteers in the twin towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio. The program will establish a volunteer rescue squad that will work in partnership with the local fire department. Both firefighters and volunteers will be trained to provide pre-hospital emergency services. Currently there is no current pre-hospital ambulance service that exists in that area of the country. The pilot program will ensure that Virginia firefighters can travel to Belize to administer the two-week EMS training to Belizean firefighters and community volunteers. This will be the launch point of the first rescue squad for the country. But we can't do it without you. Please consider making a donation today! Every amount helps!
