On the 4th of August, 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in the port of Beirut. The explosion left:
*Over 200 people dead.
*Over 5,000 injured.
*Around 300,000 displaced.
Survivors of the explosion are in need food, medicine, hygiene and cleaning material. They also need support in fixing their damaged residences. Some displaced families need temporary shelters until their houses are fixed.
The current rough assessment indicates that, out of 100,000 damaged residences, 60,000 have damages that range from fixing windows and doors to rebuilding destroyed walls and structure. Strong and immediate efforts are needed to fix these homes before winter.
Of the approximately 300,000 displaced, about 100,000 have moved in with relatives outside of Beirut. The remaining 200,000 are in Beirut and need assistance.
The Family of Saint Sharbel in Lebanon has assumed responsibility for the relief of 20 families. It is distributing 400 sandwiches a day at an approximate cost of $150 ($4,500 per month).
The Family of Saint Sharbel is preparing to fix 20 houses at an estimated total cost of $100,000.
