Project YES! is an AmeriCorps program connecting caring adults with youth in and around the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. Members serve the community through mentorship, educational, service, artistic, and recreational activities. The goal of the program is to support students’ academic achievements, provide alternatives to destructive behaviors, and foster an ethic of service in the entire community. Project YES! plans many service projects throughout the year. Our next two projects are Seeds of Service and Ultimate Field Day. We are excited to start planning and we need your help! Any money you donate will go directly to purchasing items that will provide impactful and fun events for the entire community.
The more you donate, the more we can do!
SEEDS OF SERVICE
The 17th Annual Seeds of Service event will take place on Saturday, May 8th, 2021 in a handful of community gardens around the West Town neighborhood. Project YES! mobilizes volunteers to improve local community gardens. This event will help communities foster an ethic of healthy eating, and increase access to a variety of healthy foods. Volunteers will weed, plant, and clean up the planting beds to ready them for spring.
ULTIMATE FIELD DAY
Our Ultimate Field Day was traditionally held in honor of Global Youth Service Day in April. Beginning in 2019 we have moved our Ultimate Field Day to June as a healthy kickoff to summer! This event emphasizes the importance of health and wellness in the lives of Chicago youth. Project YES! Members and neighborhood teachers will facilitate a day of sports, games, and activities for students from West Town's Rowe Middle School.
The money we raise will be used to fund items to give our volunteers and participants including:
- meals and snacks
- water bottles
- hand sanitizer
as well as other supplies such as gardening materials and sports equipment.
