Perhaps you know of the drought in La Guajira that has caused the death of more than five thousand Wayuu people, most of them being children and the elderly who have suffered not only from thirst and malnutrition but are also affected by respiratory diseases
The immune system of the Wayuu that inhabit the territory has deteriorated by a poor diet, lack of water, and pollution. The Covid-19 or CoronaVirus pandemic that has spread throughout the world, stalks the Wayuu people with greater danger. We do not want another generation of our people to die.
The main source of income for Wayuu communities is that of informal work. They work as street vendors, food vendors, domestic help, or in craft sales. For a day of work, a Wayuu family can receive between 3,000 and 5,000 pesos a day, which is equal to 0.73 cents on the dollar. During the quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus, people who live on what they earn on a daily basis are exposed to starvation and are defenseless against the pandemic.
We are The Wayuu Women's Force. Our job is to show the problems that exist in our territory. We are an indigenous organization that has for16 years, concentrated its efforts on defending human rights, protecting water and Mother Earth for the well-being of humanity and especially of our people: the Wayuu people.
With the resources you donate to the #AyudaUnaFamiliaWayuu campaign, we will deliver food to Wayuu families who cannot go to work. With your help, Wayuu families will not put their lives at risk by fighting hunger or thirst. With your donation we will mitigate the urgency to search for food during the quarantine decreed by our government as a measure to prevent and contain the contagion of covid-19
