Help 28 Women in Construction Training Get Through COVID-19
Sheltering in place isn’t easy for anyone, but for the 28 women enrolled in Women Building the Bay, it also means delaying their dreams. They were immersed in Rising Sun’s 10-week construction training program and were set to graduate April 24, only to have their training interrupted by COVID-19. There’s a lot at stake: some of them have been unemployed or underemployed for a long time and are counting on a construction career to sustain themselves and their families.
It takes a lot of courage for a woman to choose a field in which 97% of her co-workers will be men. Each woman is navigating the current situation with resiliency, but the disappointment and financial hardships are significant. Many of the women were already experiencing adversity, such as food insecurity and housing instability, and this crisis is only intensifying those difficulties. We’ve asked them what they need. The consistent response: financial support.
Rising Sun is offering remote services, and we continued to distribute the cash stipends we provide during training--until the budget was exhausted. We now need your help to extend this much-needed financial support until training resumes.
Together, we can support these strong women in getting through this tough time. Please help by contributing to the Women Building the Bay Financial Relief Fund. Your generous contribution will directly benefit the women and will make a huge difference. Here’s what participants have said about the stipends we distributed:
"I deeply appreciate the financial support at this time. Your staff is doing so much for all of us. I’ve never seen so much heart come out of one place. Thank you! Hope to be rejoined soon!!" - Cheyanna
"I can't wait to get back in class. I appreciate everyone's hard work in these times. It's really hard but I'm thankful for those who have helped me with food, otherwise this would be way worse." - Chavon
Rising Sun’s goal is to raise $20,000 to offer stipends to our 28 participants until class resumes. Will you please help by making a contribution?
