Next month, in May, I've booked my permit to hike the West Coast Trail, a 47 mile/75km backpacking hike along the southwestern coastline of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.
Since moving to Canada 3 years ago I have been exploring and hiking many different areas, but this will be my first time backpacking and camping over 6 consecutive days. Last year walking the Juan de Fuca was 3 days and nights on the trail.
This renowned hike over difficult terrain, originally an escape from the subtropical rainforest for shipwrecked mariners, is a recognised challenge in its own right. Once you commit you need to complete it to get out at the other end!
Whilst I'm hoping to complete it, I am also taking up the challenge to do so in memory of my beloved friend Sophie Lillywhite, who we lost to cancer in January 2018, and to support the efforts of her family and friends to raise funds for the hospice that looked after Sophie before and after her final Christmas at home.
With Sophie in my thoughts on this hike, your generous donations will be much appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who reads this and any donations are much apprecaited!
