Sports and exercise have been an instrumental part of my entire life. Growing up as a competitive gymnast and dancer - movement is a part of who I am. It’s easy to take for granted our amazing bodies. We demand so much of them and forget that it is truly a gift that we have arms and legs that help us move the way we want to.
This year the marathon falls on my 26th birthday where I will run the 26.2 miles for the Heather Abbott foundation. HAF was founded by Heather Abbott following the amputation of her left leg; the result of injuries sustained in the Boston Marathon bombing. HAF's mission is to help provide customized prostheses to amputees who have lost limbs due to traumatic circumstances.
The Boston Marathon bombings made a direct impact on my family when we found out my aunts sister Roseann lost her right leg due to the bombings at the finish line. I cannot put into words how inspiring she is to me by living her life with so much bravery and grace.
In order to take on this great challenge I need your help to support these resilient people in the new lives that they face bravely each and every day. I will be running to envision a world where individuals who have suffered limb loss can live the lives they always imagined. Your donations will help amputees obtain prosthetic devices that they could not otherwise afford. Thanking you all in advance for every single donation makes a difference and is deeply appreciated by so many.
