Show some love and help Parts & Crafts emerge stronger than ever!
Parts and Crafts has been hit hard by the pandemic. But despite the limitations imposed by the current situation, we have worked hard to innovate and provide excellent programming for our students. Currently, we are preparing for summer camp, but due to the current regulations, we've been limited in how many kids we can provide programs to. As a result, we need your help to make sure that Parts and Crafts is able to emerge stronger than ever.
With your help, we can build our capacity, update our technology, and set ourselves up to be bigger and better than ever once the pandemic has passed.
Homeschool Parents Started It All
Back in the winter of 2012 a group of parents approached the staff of Parts & Crafts, a popular Somerville summer camp, seeking a homeschool resource, and out of that the Center for Semi-Conducted Learning was born that fall. We've been "making things, and making things happen" for a decade now.
Makerspace Programs For Kids
Parts and Crafts rapidly became a busy, well loved maker space that has been home to a variety of programs:
- Drop-in makerspace
- After school
- Summer and vacation camps
- Homeschool/unschool program
- Community partnerships
Accessible and Inclusive
Parts and Crafts has always prioritized making programs inclusive and accessible:
- Free camp
- Sliding scale payment options
- Girls Invention Week
- Trans and nonbinary affirming culture
- Welcoming neurodiversity
Surmounting The Pandemic
It’s been very challenging for the organization to do all this during the pandemic. Scrappy as always, they secured some grants, tightened their belts, and got creative with programming:
- Outdoor, masked classes
- Online zoom classes
- Partnering with Outschool
But without being able to offer in-person programs in the physical makerspace, they’re struggling financially.

The Parts and Crafts staff have loved our kids so much and given them something they love fiercely in return, so we’re calling the fundraiser #HeartsAndCrafts .
We’re raising $40,000 (or more!) so Parts and Crafts can come out of this crisis even stronger than before.
