Imagine living paycheck to paycheck. The need to work one or even multiple jobs just to keep a roof over your head and food on the table for your three young children. Now imagine not having anywhere to send your children (twin 5-year-olds and a 7-year-old) because their school has made the impossible decision to continue schooling remotely. You are an essential worker, who cannot work from home. You do not have the luxury of quitting the only job you have or you risk losing your home and not being able to feed your kids. Unfortunately, this scenario is the reality for so many in our community right now.
As the school year begins, many of our city’s most essential teams need our help. Custodians, cafeteria workers, teachers, and healthcare workers will all need to continue reporting to work. Many of these parents and caregivers lack options for helping their children through their virtual school day. You can help keep them learning and on track for their futures — and for the future of the region and our workforce.
HealthWorks! has reimagined our role as a children's health museum. Beginning August 31st, 40 of our city’s most at-risk/under-resourced kids in K-4th grades will be coming through the doors of Healthworks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis for socially distanced, safe learning and healthy activities; supervised and guided by Healthworks!’ professional staff. Each child will receive a nutritious lunch, program supplies, and secure internet will be accessible for school-issued devices. All CDC guidelines will be followed, including a daily health screening upon arrival of staff and students, mask requirements, and increased sanitation throughout the day.
The experience will be open Monday through Friday 7:30AM – 6PM and available to registered families for free.
You can make this possible! You can keep these children safe, healthy, and on track with education by sponsoring our program today.
