Hello! My name is Toluwanimi, Program Evaluation Intern at Healthstart Foundation! I am having an amazing time this summer with the kids at our snack science camps in Austin. I’m fundraising for Healthstart foundation under the Austin Gives Miles 2020 Campaign and my current milestone is to raise $1,000 of the $20,000 goal.
Roughly one-third of Texas children are overweight or obese, which can lead to significant health problems later in life. By five years old, our food and fitness preferences are often set. Which makes the link between our childhood and adult health strong. HealthStart helps children to build strong brains and bodies so they can reach their full potential and contribute to our communities. We work with childcare centers, schools, and health care clinics so children can establish good health habits early in life.
We’ve got in school cafeteria programs and summer workshops for the kids and are currently developing and beta-testing our amazing game app called “Monstralia” where kids will learn to develop healthy habits while helping to grow a friendly monster.
Kids who participate are excited about the lessons we teach them, the activities and the snacks we make! Their parents are positive about the role these have on their behavior as well.
I’ll be sharing with you stories that hopefully get you as excited as I am and will prompt you to donate to Healthstart.
We are one of the benefiting Charities at Austin Gives Miles 2020 Martathon! Know that your gift to #TeamHealthStart gives children tools to form healthy habits, creating a strong foundation for lifelong well-being. So there’s that!
Funds raised from this campaign will benefit our Community Health Education Workshops (CHEWS) at the Housing Authority of the City of Austin. $20,000 will allow us to do Spring, Summer, and Fall workshops as well as expand to an additional property during 2019!
