Never, in our worst nightmare …
... could we have foreseen where COVID-19 would take us! Most of us have either had the virus or have close friends who have. Also, many of us have friends or loved ones who lost their lives to the virus. It is rampant in our community. This is such a trying time for our community, this country, and the rest of the world.
Both Good Samaritan Hospital and Putnam General Hospital are swamped with COVID-19 cases in addition to their normal patient loads. Hospital employees are working in very high-stress, isolated, frightening environments. Local restaurants are having an exceedingly difficult time again. The slowdown not only affects the restaurant owners but also the many workers employed by them.
With all of this in mind, the Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam Counties has resumed Project HealthCare Heroes, delivering lunch and dinner meals from local restaurants to both hospitals once a week, last year we delivered over 2,200 meals. Fortunately, we anticipated this situation last summer and eased off on the deliveries to conserve our funds. Currently, we have sufficient funds for six or seven once-a-week lunch and dinner deliveries for each hospital. However, we would like to increase delivery to two days per week.
So, we need your help. Would you please find it in your heart to donate to this wonderful cause?
All funds donated to Project HealthCare Heroes will go into Greene and Putnam Rotary Charities, Inc. which is a 501(c)(3) charity, and they will be used exclusively for meals.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Here is the kind of feedback we have consistently received from both hospitals:
“As we suit up, we feel so isolated in a closed room with multiple layers of protection between us, the patient, and a virus that has no rhyme or reason who it renders breathless. … Then, we are greeted by food that has been prepared and sent to us with such love, thought, prayers, and support…. Thank You.”

"The staff loved the Sweet Kneads lunch today. My phone is ringing off the hook. It was the best! Thank you to the Greene and Putnam County Rotary Club. I can't thank you enough and it was a change from what we have been having. It is so wonderful for our staff to know that great organizations like the Rotary Club are behind them in this battle as it continues.”

Please note: Should there be unexpended funds from the donations to the Project HealthCare Heroes, they will be used to purchase and distribute weekend meals to low-income children in Greene County each Friday during the school year. This “School Backpack Program” is a component of Second Harvest, a Rotary Signature Project.
