Hay is For horses!
Our herd of off-track thoroughbreds are doing well here, managing through the cold winter in up-state NY.
We had a bad summer for hay here in our area, too wet, too dry..... Hay is scarce and the price has gone up, diminishing our budget for the winter. Keeping horses warm in cold temps= lots of hay!
"The average horse requires approximately 20 lbs. of forage per day and winter weather can increase the amount of hay needed by 30 to 50%. For each decrease in coldness of one degree F below the critical temperature there is an increase in digestible energy requirements of one percent for body temperature maintenance. "
We have a few more months to get through and need some help from our friends.
Here is a short video about our programs and what we do....
Anything you can do to help us through the rest of the winter would be most appreciated.
