Our Halloween home haunt has been a staple in our lives for over 10 years, however, 2 years ago, right before Halloween in the midst of set-up and decorations, I was diagnosed with CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia). Although the initial shock of the news made us feel slightly defeated at that moment, we came to terms with the cards we were dealt, decided to power through and fight it. 2 years later, 2 medications later, a bone marrow biopsy later, a ton of stress, a ton of fears, a ton of tears and a lifetime of worries later, we are extremely grateful and blessed to report that I am doing well. Medication is doing what it needs to do and in record time.
Of course we are not out of the woods, but we are in a good place. We wanted to use this opportunity, using our Halloween Haunt, to raise money for this wonderful charity that has hit so close to home for us. Life is so precious and so unpredictable. Cherish what you have. Cherish what you don't have. Remember, it could always be worse than what it is today.
